Direct Boxes (DI-Box)

Direct boxes are used everywhere where there is live music. They interact between keyboards, guitar, bass guitars, computer and the mixing console. Direct boxes help us shape the audio signal according to what we need to do. They faithfully reproduce the natural sound of an instrument giving more detail to its natural sound. Direct boxes are often referred to as DI boxes and they convert unbalanced and high impedance signal into a format suitable for direct connection to a mixing console.

Direct boxes types

There are two kinds, mono, and stereo direct boxes. Mono means only one channel, stereo means two channels. Direct boxes are also active and passive. Passive means that it does not pass +48V phantom power from the mixer. Active means the opposite. We carry both types in our store from different brands Klarkteknic, dbx, and Elite Core Audio.

The Ground Lift Switch in Direct Boxes

Ground loops or hum can sometimes be heard through the direct box. The hum is caused by ground loops in the electric wiring. A direct box can eliminate the hum just by flipping the ground lift switch. This is a good reason why is good to have to always connect your instrument to the PA system through direct boxes.
